The Livery Companies of London have been pillars of charitable giving for over seven hundred years. From medieval guilds supporting orphans and widows to modern institutions funding education and welfare, the Livery tradition is rooted in benevolence.
LiveryDraw was born from a simple question: How can we engage the next generation of Livery members while maintaining our commitment to charitable giving?
The answer combines ancient tradition with modern engagement. Through modest monthly contributions, members support their Company’s charitable mission while participating in heritage-appropriate draws that offer meaningful experiences rather than cash prizes.
This is not gambling. This is fellowship. This is the modern expression of the Livery Chest — that ancient fund maintained by Companies to support good works in the community.
A Medieval Tradition
In medieval London, each Livery Company maintained a chest — a literal wooden strongbox — filled with contributions from members. This chest served as the Company’s charitable fund, supporting widows, orphans, the sick, and those fallen on hard times.
The Livery Chest was sacred. It represented the Company’s commitment to its members and the broader community. Opening the chest required multiple keys, held by different officers, ensuring transparency and preventing misuse.
Today, while most Companies have replaced their physical chests with bank accounts and investment portfolios, the principle remains unchanged: collective contributions supporting collective good.
LiveryDraw is the modern Livery Chest. Members contribute monthly, knowing their funds support education, welfare, heritage, and community — the same causes their medieval predecessors championed seven centuries ago.
To unite Livery Companies and their members in support of charitable causes through a modern, transparent, and heritage-appropriate giving program that honors centuries of benevolent tradition.
Every draw is livestreamed and recorded. Every penny is accounted for. Trust is earned through openness.
